Getting the Most Out of Your Cigna Dental Insurance

Cigna Dentist in Frisco, TX

Preventive care is considered to be the most effective way to combat common oral health problems. Tooth decay, cavities, gum disease, and even oral cancer can be caught early or prevented with regular dental checkups and cleanings. This is why our Cigna dentist and most dental insurance companies strongly encourage patients to take advantage of available benefits to better maintain their smiles. At Blue Star Smiles, our team of experts is pleased to partner with Cigna dental insurance as a way to reduce out-of-pocket expenses and keep teeth and gums looking and feeling their best year-round.

If you’d like to know more about what you can do to get the most out of your policy, call our office today at (972) 525-2822.

Cigna Coverage Availability & Fees

Individuals throughout the United States have relied on Cigna to provide top-of-the-line service when dental problems arise. Building their plans around the notion that preventive care is most important, they offer policyholders 100% coverage for any service that is designed to reduce the risk of restorative care (i.e., dental checkups and cleanings, X-rays, fluoride treatment, etc.). While this is reassuring news to anyone who has a plan with Cigna, there is also the relief that should a more serious problem occur, coverage is available.

Whether you develop a cavity or suffer sudden facial trauma, Cigna agrees to cover 70-80% for minor restorative treatments and 50% for any major treatments. Depending on the type of care you need, it will likely fall into one of these two categories. It is important to note, however, that cosmetic care of any kind is not covered by dental insurance. While there are exceptions (i.e., metal-free dental restoration), you should not expect your veneers, teeth whitening, or another similar service to be covered.

At the end of the calendar year, your coverage resets. Anything you don’t use won’t accumulate, and you aren’t reimbursed for your premiums or deductible. On average, less than 3% of people meet or exceed their annual limits. We don’t want to see you throw money down the drain.

All of this is feasible when you choose to see a dentist who is in-network with Cigna. Although it is not mandatory or required, it can help you save significantly when it comes to regular dental care. Otherwise, if you are out of network, you’ll be required to pay more for the same services you receive.

the answers you've been looking for
  • How do I know when it is time for a dental checkup?
You should have a dental checkup twice a year. If you haven’t visited the dentist for over six months, now’s the time to call Blue Star Smiles to make an appointment.
  • Do you see kids?
Yes, we see patients of all ages, meaning we’re able to treat entire families in one location. We’re very mindful of how we treat children; we want their early experiences at our dental office to help them feel more comfortable about going to the dentist on their own later in life. If there’s something you want to know about your child’s dental development, such as when baby teeth are supposed to come out, let us know.
  • How can you improve the appearance of my smile?
There are a number of services we offer that focus solely on hiding and correcting aesthetic imperfections like chips, stains, and gaps. Veneers, cosmetic bonding, teeth whitening, and Invisalign clear aligner therapy are just a few examples of cosmetic dentistry; set up a consultation with us to learn more.
  • Is tooth pain a dental emergency
There’s not just one cause of tooth pain, so how serious it actually depends on the situation. That said, more often than not the cause is linked to decay or a dental infection. We recommend scheduling an emergency appointment right away if your tooth starts to hurt and doesn’t stop after 24 to 48 hours.
